THE DISTILLERY

Det Norske Brenneri

We produce hundreds of

different types of Aquavits,

World renowned gin and

Norwegian single malt whisky.

All handcrafted by our small and

dedicated team of professionals.

LOCATION

A village with a lot of history

Det Norske Brenneri lies in the very south of Norway, in a small village called Grimstad. Though it’s small, Grimstad has a proud history of long traditions for production, and have always been pioneers in producing alcoholic beverages; With Fuhr producing fruit wines of rhubarb since the 1930s, and Nøgne Ø being the first Norwegian microbrewery who launched craft beer internationally in 2002.

Det Norske Brenneri launched the first Norwegian whisky, Audny in 2012 – another example of innovation from this small village, which also was the home of our national treasures Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun.

Grimstads climate is a mild one compared to the rest of Norway. Landwide it is known as “Norway’s Syden”, and “Syden” is a short Norwegian expression for “a land in the south which is hot and sunny, where Norwegians like to vacation”. With 200 more sunny hours than the rest of Norway, these southern temperatures affects the whisky we mature here – the whisky matures faster.

Our distillery was established in 2005, as the first new

distillery in  Norway after the State Monopoly dissolved,

and distillation  became possible for privately owned

companies as well
